Advanced Drug Discovery and Chemical Enterprise (F1609)

15 credits, Level 7 (Masters)

Autumn teaching

This module highlights the typical route of a new drug from the initial discovery of a molecule of interest, through to a final drug on the market.

You will develop the skills required to critically analyse the structure of drug molecules, and the rules and concepts needed to develop new, improved medicines.

The module also brings in experts from outside the University who will share their experience in chemical enterprise. Previous highlights include:

  • seminars on transfer technology from the laboratory
  • funding start-ups
  • the importance of patents and patent law
  • the structures and aims of big pharmaceutical/chemical companies.
