Spring teaching

This module focuses on important and modern issues in business and human rights, especially as globalization continues to grow.

You’ll explore:

  • how international business activities intersect with efforts to promote human rights
  • the global debate about whether and how businesses should respect human rights
  • the UN’s "Protect, Respect and Remedy" framework and its significance
  • real cases and systems for holding companies accountable for their impact on human rights
  • how multinational corporations, governments, and other groups are addressing these complex and controversial issues

The module combines theory and real-world examples. You’ll also get the chance to discuss major cases that highlight the challenges and debates in this area.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 300 hours of work. This breaks down into about 30 hours of contact time and about 270 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.
