By choosing to travel actively and sustainably, you can reduce your carbon footprint to help us reach Net Zero Carbon by 2035.
Active travel
Active travel means walking, wheeling, running, cycling, or using public transport.
Choose these methods to increase your health, get some exercise and reduce your carbon emissions. Find out how you can take advantage of our discounts and schemes to make active travel even easier.
- Walking
With lots of lovely walks on our doorstep, you're spolit for choice when it comes to walking to campus. Try the South Downs National Park which borders our campus, or the Boundary Walk around Stanmer Park.
Use to plan your journey or check Brighton and Hove City Council’s where you can find routes in and around Brighton for all abilities.
If you live further away from campus, try walking to the nearest bus or train station – it’s an easy way to incorporate walking into your day-to-day journeys.
- Cycling
Sussex is a bike-friendly campus with cycle paths, more than 20 bike rack locations and free shower facilities available. Brighton also has many cycle lanes, including along the main route to campus along Lewes Road, making cycling a great option for commuting to and from university.

- Bus
You can get the bus to campus from many areas of ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ, including several routes from the centre of Brighton.
Brighton & Hove Buses offer .
Staff can get a 10% discount on Brighton & Hove networkSAVER bus tickets (7 day, 28 day, 90 day and annual) using the or the app.
- Train
Trains run directly to Falmer station from Brighton, Lewes, Seaford, Eastbourne and Hastings. Once at Falmer station, go through the underpass under the A27 to get to our campus.
Students with a valid 16-25 Railcard can get a to reduce the cost of train travel.

- Car
We encourage staff, students and visitors to choose sustainable or active travel methods to come to campus wherever possible.
If you do need to drive, talk to a colleague about a car share. If you register on the , there’s a section for lift-sharing where you can share the cost and save on emissions too.
