Our entry requirements
If you are studying for the summer, semester or year, you can see our entry requirements below.
Academic requirements
You should be currently studying at university when applying for the Summer School, however you don’t need to have completed a full year of study.
We require students to have a minimum of 2.8 out of 4 GPA or equivalent.
You’ll be asked to provide evidence of qualifications with your application. We assess each application individually and may contact you to request further information.

Module requirements
Some modules have specific entry requirements, so you should also check these on our module pages before you apply.
If your module counts towards your degree, you should make sure it is approved by your home institution for transfer of credit.
Proof of English language ability
If your native language isn’t English, you must have a good level of English and evidence that you’ve successfully completed an approved English language qualification before you start studying at Sussex. Common qualifications are:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic): 6.0 overall, with at least 5.5 in each of the four components (Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language - TOEFL (iBT): 80 overall, including at least 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking, 17 in Writing (the TOEFL iBT institution code for the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ is DI 9166)
- CET 4 - 550
- CET 6 - 520
- Duolingo English Test - minimum test score of 105

We would expect English language qualifications to have been achieved within the two years before the start of your course.
You will also meet our English language requirements if your current medium of teaching is in English and you meet our academic requirements stated above.

Academic requirements
You must be academically qualified to take the modules you apply for. You must provide an official transcript.
To undertake first, second and third year modules as part of our regular semester or year-long study abroad programme you should have a minimum of 2.8 out of 4 GPA or equivalent and completion of at least one year of higher education in your home institution.
To undertake first year modules only as part of our 'gap' semester study abroad programme, you should be in good academic standing upon completion of your senior secondary (high) school diploma or equivalent.
We assess each application individually and may contact you to request further information.

- German Abitur score of 12 or above in English

You must be over the age of 18 years old by the time you commence your study.

You may need a visa to study in the UK. Sussex offers immigration and visa support to all international applicants, so check the latest guidance before you plan your trip to the UK.
