“Sussex may be 7,000 miles away from home, but it felt like a good match for me. I wanted to move to a well-connected city where there are lots of things to do and Brighton was the perfect choice – it’s so cultural, so diverse and so welcoming.
I’ve always loved mathematics and I’m fascinated by technology, but I wasn’t sure which degree would be right for me. I decided to take a Foundation Year in Computing Sciences where I could build my skills and explore potential pathways.
I found myself drawn to FinTech because it’s such a future-facing field. As a FinTech BSc student, I get the best of both worlds – I split my time between the Business School and the Department of Engineering and Informatics, which gives me access to a range of amazing resources. The Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab, for example, helps me to develop the technical analysis skills I’ll need for my future career.
I’ve connected with so many people at Sussex whose guidance has made a lasting impact. My Course Director has a treasure trove of knowledge and she’s become a mentor to me. I’ve even worked as her Junior Research Associate, where I learned vital skills in financial research. I’ve also met so many people who’ve not only helped me to navigate British culture, but who’ve become my friends for life.
Sussex offers lots of opportunities to gain practical and professional experience. I’ve attended summer schools in Mannheim and Vienna, where I connected with industry experts and collaborated with people from all over the world. My time as a Course Rep and Residential Connector also helped me grow my networks while making a difference to the lives of fellow students.
Studying FinTech has opened up so many possibilities. In the future, I’d like to focus on exploring technical roles where I can develop client relationships – building my knowledge while helping them achieve their financial goals.”
