Self funding your SKE course
Find out how you can self fund your SKE course, either by paying fees yourself or through your school/institution.
Can I self-fund my SKE?
The self-funded SKE route is for:
- teacher trainee applicants who are not eligible for DfE funding
- qualified teachers who want to teach a new subject
- qualified teachers who want to refresh their subject knowledge before returning to teaching after a break
- anyone considering teaching as a new career who wants to increase their subject knowledge before applying for teacher training
- SKE subject courses which are not funded by the DfE.
You can self-fund by paying for the course yourself, or paying through your sponsor school or organisation if you have their agreement.
Self-funded subjects
We offer the self-funding route for 12 different SKE courses. Each course is based on 100-hour units, and can be studied flexibly and online. You can see the structure for each course on the relevant subject page.

If you are self-funding, we will invoice you directly. If you’re being funded by a sponsor school or organisation, they will be invoiced after you’ve applied. If your school or ITT provider is part of the Sussex Partnership you will be entitled to a discounted fee.
