Psychology of Exercise and Wellbeing (C8849)

15 credits, Level 6

Spring teaching

This module explores the links between exercise and wellbeing. Throughout the module, we:

  • cover the theoretical basis and practical complications of exercise interventions, drawing on health psychology and behaviour change research
  • explore how we can promote exercise engagement, and promote wellbeing and mental health in exercise contexts
  • consider how to design inclusive exercise interventions, exploring barriers and benefits specific to marginalised or minority groups.

The module is grounded in the real world via pre-session activities such as using and reflecting on a mobile phone fitness app or evaluating guidance from sports’ governing bodies around women’s participation.

We regularly review our modules to incorporate student feedback, staff expertise, as well as the latest research and teaching methodology. We’re planning to run these modules in the academic year 2024/25. However, there may be changes to these modules in response to feedback, staff availability, student demand or updates to our curriculum.

We’ll make sure to let you know of any material changes to modules at the earliest opportunity.
