How can I pay for printing and copying?

Sussex staff should raise purchase orders for printing or copying work in Unit 4 (the University Finance system) and give the PO number to the Print Unit on placement of order. For full details of the ordering process see our Placing an order page.

We currently accept payment by credit or debit card only.

Please note that printing work which is not being paid for by the University (i.e. by purchase order) must be paid for on placement of order, unless by prior agreement, and that there is a minimum charge of £3.00 per transaction.

We cannot charge work to your student account or IT Services printing account.

I only need to print off one page - can the Print Unit help?

Yes, we can - but it will cost £3.00 because we need to charge enough to cover the staff time involved. If you only need to make a small number of copies or print a couple of pages, we recommend you make use of the self-service multifunctional printers in the Library and in IT Services cluster rooms.

I've lost my ID card. What should I do?

We can issue you with a replacement ID card if yours has been lost or stolen. ID cards will only be deemed to be stolen on presentation of a valid police crime reference number. Stolen ID cards will be re-issued free of charge. Lost ID cards will be charged at £10.00 per card, payable on order. Visit our ID cards page for more information.

I need to print a poster. What should I do?

We can print colour posters up to A0 in house, from Word, Powerpoint, Publisher or PDF, and turn them around for you within 2 working days in most cases. We can arrange for larger sizes and/or special finishes to be printed for you via an external approved supplier but the lead time may be longer depending on the job. Please see our poster printing page for more details.

How much will I be charged for black and white photocopying?

We charge a flat rate of 3p per A4 copy and 5p per A3 for work we undertake in the Print Unit, plus paper. See our Standard price list and Student price list for details and costs of the different papers we stock.

How much will I be charged for colour photocopying?

Our charges for colour copying start at 20p per A4 copy and 35p per A3, plus paper. However these rates reduce quickly the greater the number of copies you order, and for larger print runs we are often able to give a substantial discount - so it is always worth asking us for a quote! Email PrintUnit@sef.fm

How long will it take to print my job?

Normal turnaround time for reprographic work is from 2 to 5 working days from receipt of purchase order, depending on the size of the job, and for externally sourced printing 5 working days from proof approval. Where work is required more urgently we will accommodate your needs where we can, but this is not guaranteed. At certain times of year we are extremely busy and turnaround times can be longer than normal depending on the volume of requests we are handling.

The standard lead time for thesis/dissertation binding (where the printed document is supplied) is 24 hours. For thesis printing and binding, the standard lead time is 3 working days.

The standard lead time for poster printing is 2 working days.

How do I order University stationery?

To request University stationery, you can either use this form or email us with details of what you need. A member of the Reprographics team will contact you with confirmation of the cost for what you have requested, and once we have received your purchase order you will be sent a PDF proof to check before your stationery is printed. If you are paying for University stationery yourself, please note that we will need payment on placement of order.

University stationery layouts are set to a standard specification and any deviations you may require are subject to approval by the Branding Team.

I need to get something professionally designed. Can the Print Unit help?

The Print Unit does not offer a design service. Design services are available through the Branding Team. This should be your first contact point where this kind of work is required. For advice and guidance contact Digital and Creative Media at dcm@sussex.ac.uk
