Biography
Martin has joined the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ Business School in June 2018 and is currently Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Operations & Supply Chain Management. Prior to that, he was Assistant Professor for Sustainable Business/CSR/Business Ethics at the Nottingham University Business School and has held further positions at the German Graduate School in Heilbronn (Germany) as well as the EBS University for Business and Law (European Business School) in Wiesbaden (Germany), where he also finished his PhD in January 2014.
His research investigates a variety of supply chain topics, sustainability and ethical issues with an overall focus on responsibilities in global supply chains and buyer-supplier relationships. More specifically, his projects involve (sustainable) supply chain risk management, supplier exploitation, conflict minerals management, modern slavery, sustainability reporting and global sourcing.
Since 2018, Martin acts as the Editorial Assistant for the International Journal of Operations and Production Management. Moreover, he is member of the editorial reviewer boards of the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management and the Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management and ad-hoc reviewer for several renown outlets (e.g., Decision Sciences, International Journal of Production Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Business Logistics, etc.). In 2017, he has been a guest editor for a special issue in the Journal of Purchasing & Supply Management. Currently, Martin started to work as a co-guest editor for a special issue in the International Journal of Operations and Production Management on “The hidden side of sustainable operations and supply chain management: Unanticipated outcomes, trade-offs and tensions” with colleagues from the University of Surrey (UK) and the University of Kassel (Germany) which will be published 2020.
For his academic work, Martin has received several awards, including the best reviewer award from the International Journal of Operations and Production Management (2017) as well as Outstanding Paper in the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management (Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence) in 2017 and 2018.
Besides his research activities, Martin has been project manager of a government-funded grant ("Sustainable Sourcing Excellence") focusing on sustainable procurement. Furthermore, he has been involved in several scientific consulting projects about conflict minerals management (with Global Witness) and pharmaceutical supply chains. In 2018, he also won a WWF/ROUTES grant (30,000 USD) for a project about wildlife trafficking in maritime supply chains together with collaborators from the University of Oldenburg (Germany) and the Kuehne Logistics University, Hamburg (Germany).
