2023 elections notice
The Governance Team will be running elections for 2023 as follows;
- Schools Representatives to Senate x10
- Professional Services Representative to Senate
- Professional Services Representative to Council
- Postgraduate Research Student to Council
Census day: 28th April 2023
The Governance Team are holding webinars about the role of Senate and Council; these are open to all staff eligible for nomination. Please email lg476@sussex.ac.uk if you would like to attend one of these sessions;
- Elections to Council: Thursday 4 May, 4pm-5pm or Wednesday 10 May, 1pm-2pm
- Elections to Senate: Thursday 4 May, 2pm-3pm or Wednesday 10 May, 10am-11am
School Representatives to Senate Elections 2023
Notice of Election for one member of Academic Staff from each of the Schools of Study to Senate to serve from 1 August 2023 until 31 July 2026.
Calls for Nominations begin on 2nd May 2023.
Eligibility
Provision is made for two members of the academic staff to be elected to Senate by and from the academic staff of each School of Studies.
In accordance with the relevant Regulations, the following members of the School’s academic staff are eligible to nominate, be nominated and vote in this election:-
- those on Teaching or Research Faculty Conditions of Service who (a) hold University appointments on the census date and (b) whose continuous service with the University will be at least one year by the end of the contract which is in force on the census date.
The electorate will be the members of the School’s academic staff as defined above on the census date of 28th April 2023.
Election procedure
The first step is the nomination of candidates. A Nomination Form for each school can be found in the table below.
Nominators should check that their nominee is willing and eligible to serve. Self-nomination is permissible.
Completed nominations forms must be returned to lg476@sussex.ac.uk by 5pm on Tuesday 16th May 2023.
Each Nomination Form received will be acknowledged. Ballot papers will be issued if necessary, after the closing date for nominations together with details of the voting procedure. The result of the election will be announced on the Planning, Governance & Compliance website.
Professional Services Elections 2023
Notice of Elections to choose 1 member of staff from the University’s Professional Services to serve on Senate, and 1 member of staff from the University’s Professional Services to serve on Council for a three-year period from 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2026.
Calls for Nominations begin on 2nd May 2023.
Eligibility
Provision is made for two members of the Professional Services staff to be elected to Senate and 1 member to Council, by and from the Professional Services staff of the University.

Post Graduate Research Student Elections 2023
Notice of Elections to choose 1 Research Graduate Student at the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ to serve on Council for a one-year period from 1 August 2023 to 31 July 2024.
Calls for Nominations beginning on 2nd May 2023.
Eligibility
All ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ registered Postgraduate Research Students are eligible to nominate or be nominated, who will remain students from 1 August 2023- 31 July 2024.
The electorate will be all Post Graduate Researchers on the census date of 28 April 2023.

Nominators should check that their nominee is willing and eligible to serve. Self-nomination is permissible.
