Notice of Election of a staff member of Senate to Council to serve until 31 July 2020

This notice is to announce the election of a staff member of Senate to Council to serve until 31 July 2020. The election is caused by the end of tenure of Professors Andrea Cornwall and Dr Elizabeth Craig.
Eligibility
Statute IV and the Regulations set out the membership of Council. Provision is made for three members of Senate to be elected to Council by and from the members of Senate.
In accordance with the Regulations for membership of Council pursuant to the Statute, the following members of Senate are eligible to nominate, be nominated and vote in this election for the members of staff of Senate: elected or ex-officio members who are members of Senate at the time of their election to Council. At least two of the elected members shall be academic members.
(NB the other current members of Senate elected to Council are academic members: Professor Steve McGuire and Professor Kate O’Riorden).
The electorate will be the members of Senate as defined above as of 11 October 2017.
Election procedure
The first step is the nomination of candidates. A Nomination Form has been published on the Office of Governance and Secretariat website:

Nominators should check that their nominee is willing and eligible to serve. Self-nomination is permissible.
Completed forms must be returned to Kate Knight (Governance Officer, Sussex House Room 300 or by email to k.knight@sussex.ac.uk) by 12 noon on Monday 16 October 2017. Please note that if you are submitting your form in hard copy it is your responsibility to ensure that it reaches the Governance Office by the required deadline.
Each Nomination Form received will be acknowledged. Ballot papers will be issued if necessary after the closing date for nominations together with details of the voting procedure. The result of the election will be announced on the above page of the Planning, Governance and Compliance website.
