Introduction

Miss K Parker was employed by Rudyard Kipling and his wife Caroline between 1901 and 1904. Parker worked first as an assistant to the Kiplings’ children’s nanny, but soon took over from Mrs Kipling’s secretary. This collection comprises draft letters and typescripts of stories which Miss Parker retained from her employment, and drafts or copies of three letters of her own concerning her employment. The letters were bought at auction in 1996 with a grant from the Victoria and Albert Purchase Grant Fund and through the generosity of an anonymous donor.
