Introduction

Anne Olivier Bell assisted her late husband Quentin in the preparation of his two-volume biography of Virginia Woolf and, later, Mrs Bell herself edited Virginia’s diaries. Both projects generated a large body of correspondence. The A O Bell Papers number over 1,300 letters in six boxes with numerous enclosures. The correspondence includes debates sparked by controversial studies of Virginia Woolf.
