Support for You
Discover the various avenues of support available to PGRs to assist your postgraduate research journey. We aim to help you overcome challenges, personal or academic, and ultimately get the most out of your PGR experience at Sussex.
Health and Wellbeing
While you may dedicate many hours to independent research, you’ll never be on your own. Throughout your research journey, our goal is to ensure you stay healthy, positive and well.
If you find yourself struggling mentally or emotionally, then please see our Mental Health and Wellbeing webpage for advice and support. There is also help available for disabled PGRs and those with a learning difficulty or ongoing physical/mental health condition.
You can find out about the healthcare services available in Brighton and on campus, as well as advice on what to do if you are unwell. If you are an international PGR then please see the guidance for international students on health and welfare, which includes information on the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).
Academic Support
We aim to help PGRs to understand postgraduate research processes, regulations and standards, as well as providing information about supervision.
You can also find out more about the Library’s research support tools and training, as well as the ethical review processes that may be required as part of your research.
International PGR support
International PGRs may need additional advice on their visa, including contacting an International Advisor for assistance, seeking guidance on working in the UK or needing advice on dealing with homesickness and culture shock.
If you would like to continue to develop your English for academic study, then the English Language for Academic Study (ELAS) offers a range of workshops, sessions and tutorials.
Other resources
If you would like to get in touch with other PGRs and supportive group, including your PGR Representatives, Hive Scholars and the Buddy Scheme, then please see our PGR Support Networks webpage for more information.
You can also find out about Careers resources and opportunities for PGRS to support your professional development. If you find yourself struggling financially, then you can access financial advisor or speak to an advisor in the Student Centre.
Alongside the Sussex Researcher School and Student Centre, there are a variety of useful facilities available on campus. These include the Post Office, pharmacy, launderettes and even childcare.
