The School of Education and Social work is committed to understanding and acting on how gender shapes our policy, practices, and culture.

Bronze Athena Swan awardIn 2024, the School of Education & Social Work received its first Athena Swan award at Bronze level. accredits awards based on a framework used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education and research. 

Our Bronze award commits us collectively - as staff and students - to a series of Actions for the next five years and informs our EDI work, as well as the strategic actions of the School Leadership Team. These Actions include, but are not limited to:
  • ensuring staff and students receive regular communications to increase awareness of EDI issues and initiatives
  • providing regular opportunities and spaces for staff and students to discuss EDI, including the experience and impacts of gender and intersectional identities
  • enhancing awareness and communication of reporting and support mechanisms for staff and students.
