Rahul Rajasekharan Nair, Mechanical Engineering PhD
In my 23-year-long student life, doing a PhD at the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ is the most rewarding experience I have had.
On the research and academic front, I was constantly challenged by my supervisor Dr. Yevgen Petrov, by my fellow researchers in the Dynamics, Control and Vehicle Research Group and the sponsor of my research project, MTU Aero Engines AG, Germany. The challenges I faced, helped me become a better student and a better researcher. The research I carried out at the ÅÝܽ¶ÌÊÓƵ concerned the prediction of vibration of turbine and compressor blades used in aircraft engines. While working on this research project, I had the opportunity to interact with experts in the field from academic institutions and the aeronautical industry.
On a personal level, I made numerous friends from across the globe, making my time at Sussex unique and memorable. Needless to say, interactions with such a diverse group within and outside the University, shattered many of my misconceptions about the world and our life.
The success I had here as a student instils a confidence in me that I can go anywhere in the world and be successful.
