How can I set single line spacing as standard in Word 2016?


To set the default spacing to single line eliminating the extra space between paragraphs for all new documents.

  1. Open the Home tab then from the Paragraph group click on the Dialog Box Launcher icon - small icon bottom right hand corner of the group
  2. The Paragraph dialog box is displayed
  3. Under Spacing set 'Before' to be 0 pt, set 'After' to be 0  pt and 'Line spacing' to be Single
  4. Click on the Set as Default... button at the bottom of the dialog box, a message is displayed 'Do you want this change to affect all new documents based on the NORMAL template?', click the Yes button
  5. All new documents will now be based on this setting, existing documents will not be effected

NB: On an ITS cluster room PC this setting will not be saved when you logoff.
