15 credits

FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)

Module Outline

Wireless communications have become an essential part of our lives and growing massively into connected devices and industrial applications. The aim of the module is to introduce students to some of the most recent technologies in the field of wireless and mobile communications and to equip the students with appropriate research methods and skills important in the design and analysis of future 5G mobile and wireless systems. The student will learn about the new technologies and wireless systems design and analysis through lectures, seminars, and project work. The project work will involve research and simulations using specialised wireless communication design tools with MATLAB.

AHEP4 Learning Outcomes
M1, M2, M3, M4, M12, M13, M17

Module learning outcomes

Analyse and quantitatively evaluate the unique characteristics of recent wireless and mobile communication technologies and the novel aspects they offer.

Conduct research on one detailed topic and critically evaluate its application for future systems.

Develop simulation models to study the performance of mobile communication techniques in different environments.

Analyse the design of state-of-the art wireless communication systems using specialised software simulation tools and be able to create a specific design from this.
